Thoughts about House on Haunted hill?
The sequel made in 2007 was awful, but the movie made in 1999 was really good in my opinion. Maybe the ending wasn’t the best, but it seems every horror movies has a bad ending. I just thought it was something different, and really enjoyed it. Friday the 13th, Halloween, and movies like that are so predictable, but House on Haunted Hill kept things out in the open, and you never knew what to expect. I’d have to say it’s my favorite horror movies of all time. I thought i’d bring this topic up since Halloween is almost here. Thoughts?

I actually really liked the first one. The second one was alright, but no where near as good as the 1st one.

Can i please have help in U.S. History.?
13. How had the American electorate changed by the election of 1828?
(Points: 3)
Thanks to the suffragette movement, women in some states were eligible to vote.

With landholding requirements still in place, fewer men were eligible to vote.

With landholding requirements eliminated, most white men were eligible to vote.

Property requirements for voting continued to keep African American men from voting.

14. How did John Quincy Adams become President in 1824?
(Points: 3)
Henry Clay threw his support to Adams when the contest went to the House of Representatives.

Andrew Jackson withdrew from the election when he did not win enough electoral votes.

William Crawford and Henry Clay cancelled each other out, so Adams gained a majority.

John Quincy Adams had served in the House of Representatives, so they supported him.

15. What was the main objection that people had to John Quincy Adams’s election by the House of Representatives?
(Points: 3)
William Crawford won the popular vote, so people felt that the House of Representatives had disregarded the will of the people.

John Quincy Adams believed in a strong federal government, so many people objected to having him serve as president.

Andrew Jackson was a military hero who many people wanted the House of Representatives to honor by electing him president.

John Quincy Adams later appointed Henry Clay as secretary of state, so people felt there had been some "corrupt bargain" made between them.

16. Who supported Andrew Jackson in the election of 1828?
(Points: 3)
Native Americans who owned property

the common man

women who appreciated his devotion to his wife Rachel

slaves whom he had freed

17. Which of the following caused the greatest problem for Andrew Jackson in the election of 1828?
(Points: 3)
expenses for posters, rallies, and buttons

ethical problems that his opponent revealed in the press

negative statements about Rachel Jackson

inexperienced campaign advisors

18. Which group describes the members of the Democratic Party who supported Andrew Jackson?

(Points: 3)
Group A

Group B

19. Which of the following was a position of the Whig Party during the Jackson administration?
(Points: 3)
favored state and local funding of roads

opposed the Second Bank of the United States

opposed Indian removal and slavery

favored lower tariffs

20. A crisis erupted in the 1830s over nullification. Which of the following does not describe an aspect of nullification?
(Points: 3)
States could invalidate federal legislation.

States could prevent federal legislation from being enforced within their boundaries.

States could override presidential vetoes regardless of congressional action.

States could secede from the Union if they deemed this necessary.

21. What was the greatest concern of those opposing nullification during the crisis in the 1830s?
(Points: 3)
that South Carolina would become much too powerful and impose slavery on other states

that John C. Calhoun would become president

that states would leave the Union and gravely weaken it

that the United States would fail to collect tariffs, causing a financial strain on the economy

22. How was the nullification crisis resolved?
(Points: 3)
by South Carolina withdrawing its call for nullification

by John C. Calhoun giving in to Andrew Jackson

through a compromise achieved by Henry Clay

with military intervention ordered by Jackson

23. Why did Andrew Jackson veto the bill renewing the charter of the Second National Bank of the United States?
(Points: 3)
Too many loans were outstanding.

The federal money supply was large enough.

The Supreme Court had ruled that it was illegal.

It gave little credit to ordinary people.

24. What was Andrew Jackson’s belief about Native Americans?
(Points: 3)
They stood in the way of land acquisition by white men.

They deserved government support.

They should have full citizenship and voting rights.

They could form a government of their own and become allies of the United States.

25. What legislation was passed in 1830 relocating the "five civilized tribes" from their lands in the East to others further west?
(Points: 3)
Indian Removal Act

Native American Relocation Act

What is a peoples favourite song by BOB GELDOF and THE BOOMTOWN RATS ?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Do you like this one?

BOB GELDOF and THE BOOMTOWN RATS- "I dont like Mondays"

Geldof was born Robert Frederick Zenon Geldof in Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland, to parents of Catholic extraction. He attended Blackrock College, near Dublin, a school whose staunch Catholic nationalist ethos he disliked. After work as a slaughterman, road navvy and pea canner, he started as a music journalist in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, for the weekly publication Georgia Straight. Upon returning to Ireland in 1975, he became the lead singer of the band The Boomtown Rats, a rock group closely linked with the punk movement. In 1978, The Boomtown Rats had their first No. 1 single in the UK with "Rat Trap", which was the first New Wave chart-topper in that country. In 1979, the group shot to international fame with their second UK No. 1, "I Don’t Like Mondays".[2] This was equally successful, as well as controversial; Geldof wrote it in the aftermath of Brenda Ann Spencer’s attempted massacre at an elementary school across the street from her house in San Diego, California, at the beginning of 1979.

Sad band, talentless man apart from the fact that he knows how to make money for charity and then keeps telling us that he gave up a massive music career to help people, truth be told he found a brilliant way to make a small fortune for himself and also for various charities. This band only ever became famous because they sang a well written song about a hugely tragic event that shocked the world.

Is there a guitar book for someone who can already play well? Electric Guitar?
Hi, my name is john and I have been playing for about 3 years now. I have a epiphone les paul and a line 6spider 75 watt amp. I have the finger strength to play abstract chords and pretty cool lead. My only problem is advancing from where I am now. can play these song like…

1.FPCREMIX by Fall of Troy
2.Make Damn Sure by Taking Back Sunday
3.A Favor House Atlantic, Blood Red Summer, Devil in Jersey City by Coheed&Cambria(coheed fan)
4.Face Down by Redjumpsuit

I want to be able to play stuff like Atreyu and Muse, Coheed&Cambria, Killswitch Engaged or, Devildriver. Does anyone know any GOOD books that can help me learn some nice riffs, but some riffs that teach fundamentals that i will be able to use to make my own music!?

I would recommend the following Guitar Grimoire books.

Scales and Modes: http://www.themusicnmorestore.com/produc t_info.php?products_id=117721
Learning scales and modes will help you figure out riffs by understanding the basic patterns that are used.

Progressions and Improvisations: http://www.themusicnmorestore.com/produc t_info.php?products_id=117724
This book is designed to help you learn to improvise your own solos.
Marilyn J | Nov 22, 2009

To be able to solo well, you need to know your scales and modes perfectly. I would suggest Berklee Guitar volume 1. That book will teach you how to scale properly all over the fingerboard. It will expand your dexterity, increase your fluidity when doint the scales. etc… Take a look into it. Then, jump to Volume 2 . Once you master these two books, you will not recognize your playing and I’m not saying this because I taught at Berklee college either.

Here is the link

http://www.berkleepress.com/catalog/cate gory-browse?category_id=19

Note that each book equals one full year of course with a Berklee Teacher. \

What was the name of the Napa Valley winery in "Bottle Shock."?

Chateau Montelena is the winery depicted for its 1976 award winning chardonnay. Though Stags Leap was in the mix at the tasting, it was Chateau Montelena that won the competition and whom most of the characters in the movie are based on.

Why is there such a large racial disparity in the US when it comes to violent crime?
There is a term used by some researchers called "non-Asian minorities" to describe the demographic groups in the US which commit the most violent crime.

For instance, check out these Department of Justice statistics:

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/ra ce.htm

As you can see, the murder rate for blacks is an astonishing seven times higher than the rates for whites and hispanics. Other studies show that if you separate hispanics from whites, the white murder rate drops even lower.

Why is this? Why does this gigantic racial disparity exist in America when it comes to murder?

Is it "poverty"? Nope. West Virginia is one of our poorest states, but it has a low murder rate. It is also 96% white.

Is it "guns"? Nope. Vermont has the loosest gun laws in the country, and has a very low murder rate. It is also 97% white.

So – what are the reasons?

I think it is poverty, mixed with a low self esteem and poor education and lack of good role models. Mix all that with an apathetic society and there is no wonder that some cultures have more violence than others.

Lack of morality and family values. Like I have previously mentioned, more African American males will die on the streets of our inner cities than soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan this year. And do you know what party runs the majority of our large cities?
Malukchuk | Nov 20, 2009

West Virginia and Vermont are two of the smallest states in population and size in the country so of course they have "low" crime rates.

Find the crime rates in Texas or California and then talk.
Paul | Nov 20, 2009

That is what happens when a whole entire race gets inslaved and discriminated against for decades. Family values, education, morals, etc…..all that takes time to build itself back up.
Being poor doesn’t help either.
Most poor people don’t have any good role models and people there to push them along the way.

What i hate the most is when people just want to bring this up to point fingers or to make people look bad. When there is a problem that is as serious as this is,i think its better to look for solutions because it affects us all no matter who the crime(s) is against.

You below me::: thats just the way they are–the simple truth. You’ve got to be kidding. please just stfu
Thats like saying that since 90% of cereal killers are white, thats just the way they are. Get a clue

EDIT:: to "WILL" No, you’re putting words into my mouth. Don’t do that. I said what i said exactly and that is what i meant. If you don’t understand, maybe you should think a little harder.
Anti -Silence | Nov 20, 2009

I have studied this subject as a hobby and after significant research with the Metropolitan police of London and others I have come to understand that murder is a congenital part of the black races psyche. In London black people represent 10% of the population yet they commit 90%, yes 90% of all murders and violent crime. The reason can be made out to be as complicated or as straight forward as you want it to be. The simple truth is that, it is just the way they are. <<<HEY>>>"ANTI-SILENCE">>> You are obviously very poorly educated so there is no real point in trying to translate words like ‘congenital’ and ‘phyche’ as they are meaningless to you. You say, "since 90% of ‘cereal’ killers were white" and so on , the correct word is ’serial’. I am unaware of white men killing packets of corn flakes or bowls sugar puffs. The initial part of my answer suggested that murder is an inborn characteristic of the black man’s disposition. It has nothing whatsoever to do with poverty or their unfortunate history of exploitation and slavery which was, in the main as a direct consequence of their primitive lifestyle and inability to formulate and organise an effective defence strategy against the slave trader’s attacks. If blacks are poor they should recognise that, it is through their own innate laziness and lack of entreprenurial skills that they are the architects of their own pathetic circumstances. Don’t blame everyone and everything else for your alleged plight. Other than what my unprejudged research has revealed and what I have observed and experienced in Britain and the U.S.A,I really don’t know the general circumstances of black people as there are very few of them in Northern Ireland. I do know however, that the computer which you are using, the television which you will watch at some point, the radio you may be listening to, the telephone in your home, the electricity powering your house, the car in your garage along with 1000s of other scientific and medical inventions/discoveries which benefit mankind and relieve or cure human suffering have, like all the large wealth generating Corporations been effected by the ingenuity of the white man. All I see is the black man trying to capitalize on the white man’s prosperous societies throughout the world by the appliance of crime including drug dealing, prostitution and other obnoxious acts of villainy. Don’t dare ask anyone alive today to feel guilty for the so called "sins of their fathers".
Alter Ego | Nov 20, 2009

I do not know but it is true and sad.

You do not kill armed citizens so easily.

You also do not burglarize armed homes.
BackAgain | Nov 20, 2009

Cannot give you a good answer. Blacks have a high drop out from school, drugs, early pregnancy, no father in the home, and much more. Blacks tend to fantasize about being a football or basketball player, a gangster, rapper, or drug pusher. With these goals in life one is not going to far without an education. We must be able to speak, read, and write English in today’s world.
I work with many adult blacks and they play rap music and love being ghetto. They consider pushing drugs an okay job if you did not finish high school. (crazy) If these adult blacks are the role models for the kids coming up –God Help Them.
nissanman678 | Nov 20, 2009

I believe it is a mixture of genetics and mindset. Minorities are often brainwashed by the media to feel victimized by "the man" (the old man, not obama).

By listing texas and california you are doing little to disprove this guy’s question. Murder rates are on a per 1000 persons basis. So weither the state has 10,000 or 10,000,000 residence, the proportion is the same.

@Anti-silence, So you’re implying that by being removed from africa and enslaved, their descendants are worse off than those that never left africa? Dang man, watch some news or Google african current events.
Will | Nov 20, 2009

I haven’t done the research because it doesn’t take a genius to see the trend you are talking about. For those who say that no one should bother bringing this up are what enables this to continue. Washington D.C. is also a good example. I guess it’s a form of population control though. That should put a smile on an environmentalist face. At least it’s not the Detroit wood rat that’s being killed everyday right?
liberal lion tamer | Nov 20, 2009

Not sure what the reasons are…most likely it is a lot of contributing factors.

But lets be fair here shall we?

What are the reasons for why over 80% of the child molestations in this country are committed by white men? All those christian/catholic rapist priests and pastors…100% white, not a black or brown man among them. All of these high profile kidnappings/rapes…Smart, Dugard etc..etc..kidnapped and raped by white men.

So it sure seems that it is true that black men commit murder at higher rates than white men, it also seems true that white men commit child rape at higher rates than black or brown men.

Will you be seeking out answers for the child rape racial disparity?

Or is your goal merely to demonize one racial group and give others a pass?

IMDB rating: 6.80

Plot: Set in Paris in 1919, biopic centers on the life of late Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, focusing on his last days as well as his rivalry with Pablo Picasso. Modigliani, a Jew, has fallen in love with Jeanne, a young and beautiful Catholic girl. The couple has an illegitimate child, and Jeanne’s bigoted parents send the baby to a faraway convent to be raised by nuns. Modigliani is distraught and needs money to rescue and raise his child. The answer arrives in the shape of Paris’ annual art competition. Prize money and a guaranteed career await the winner. Neither Modigliani, nor his dearest friend and rival Picasso have ever entered the competition, believing that it is beneath true artists like themselves. But push comes to shove with the welfare of his child on the line, and Modigliani signs up for the competition in a drunken and drug-induced tirade. Picasso follows suit and all of Paris is aflutter with excitement at who will win. With the balance of his relationship with Jeanne on the line, Modigliani tackles this work with the hopes of creating a masterpiece, and knows that all the artists of Paris are doing the same.

However, she soon realizes that the modern world has forced them to compromise who they are, and that she has moved them there for all the wrong reasons – a motive which is soon exposed – because secrets can really never be kept secret. Here is the justice of God?
Injustice in Genesis

God punishes Eve, and all women after her, with the pains of childbirth and subjection to men. 3:16

God likes Abel’s dead animals better than Cain’s fruits and vegetables. Why? Well, no reason is given, but it probably has something to do with the amount of pain, blood, and gore involved. 4:3-5

Lamech kills a man and claims that since Cain’s murderer would be punished sevenfold, whoever murders him will be punished seventy-seven fold. That sounds fair. 4:23-24

God is angry. He decides to destroy all humans, beasts, creeping things, fowls, and "all flesh wherein there is breath of life." He plans to drown them all. 6:7, 17

God repeats his intention to kill "every living substance … from off the face of the earth." But why does God kill all the innocent animals? What had they done to deserve his wrath? It seems God never gets his fill of tormenting animals. 7:4

God drowns everything that breathes air. From newborn babies to koala bears — all creatures great and small, the Lord God drowned them all. 7:21-23

"Into your hand are they (the animals) delivered." God gave the animals to humans, and they can do whatever they please with them. This verse has been used by bible believers to justify all kinds of cruelty to animals and environmental destruction. 9:2

The "just and righteous" Noah (6:9, 7:1) plants a vineyard, gets drunk, and lies around naked in his tent. His son, Ham, happens to see his father in this condition. When Noah sobers up and hears "what his young son had done unto him" (what did he do besides look at him?), he curses not Ham, who "saw the nakedness of his father," but Ham’s son, Canaan. "A servant of servants shall he [Canaan] be unto his brethren." This is a typical case of biblical justice, and is one of many Bible passages that have been used to justify slavery. 9:20-25

God sends a plague on the Pharaoh and his household because the Pharaoh believed Abram’s lie. 12:17

Hagar conceives, making Sarai jealous. Abram tells Sarai to do to Hagar whatever she wants. "And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled." 16:6

The angel tells Hagar to return and submit to her abusive owner, Sarai. 16:8-9

God gives Abraham and his descendants all of the land of Canaan "forever". This promise is still used to justify the unending battles over the land in the Middle East. 13:14-15, 17:8

God tells Abram that all males must be circumcised, even those whom Abram had bought with money. There isn’t the slightest evidence in this passage, or in any other in the Bible, that the biblical God disapproves of slavery. 17:12-13, 23, 27

An uncircumcised boy is to be abandoned by his parents and community. 17:14

Abraham begs God not to kill everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah. [Which is odd, since later (Genesus 22:2-10) Abraham doesn't even question God's request that he kill his own son.] He asks God two good questions: "Wilt thou destroy the righteous with the wicked?" and "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" 18:23-25

"I will not destroy it for ten’s sake."
I guess God couldn’t find even ten good Sodomites because he decides to kill them all in Genesis 19. Too bad Abraham didn’t ask God about the children. Why not save them? If Abraham could find 10 good children, toddlers, infants, or babies, would God spare the city? Apparently not. God doesn’t give a damn about children. 18:32

Lot refuses to give up his angels to the perverted mob, offering his two "virgin daughters" instead. He tells the bunch of angel rapers to "do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes." This is the same man that is called "just" and "righteous" in 2 Peter 2:7-8. 19:8

Lot lied about his daughters being "virgins" in 19:8. But it was a "just and righteous" lie, intended to make them more attractive to the sex-crazed mob. 19:14

God kills everyone (men, women, children, infants, newborns) in Sodom and Gomorrah by raining "fire and brimstone from the Lord out of heaven." Well, almost everyone — he spares the "just and righteous" Lot and his family.19:24

Lot’s nameless wife looks back, and God turns her into a pillar of salt. 19:26

God gets angry with king Abimelech, though the king hasn’t even touched Sarah. He says to the king, "Behold, thou art but a dead man," and threatens to kill him and all of his people. To compensate for the crime he never committed, Abimelech gives Abraham sheep, oxen, slaves, silver, and land. Finally, after Abraham "prayed unto God," God lifts his punishment to Abimelech, "for the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah." 20:3-18

God "closed all the wombs" because Abimelech believed Abe’s lie. 20:18

Sarah, after giving birth to Isaac, gets angry again at Hagar (see Gen.16:5-6) and tells Abraham to ‘cast out this bondwoman and her son." God commands Abraham to "hearken unto her voice." So Abraham abandons Hagar and Ishmael, casting them out into the w

We would not complain if we were under a kingdom and the king said. "Off with his head!" He’s the king. What he says goes. Judging God will NOT get anyone, anywhere.

Romans 9:13-22 (New Century Version)

13 As the Scripture says, "I loved Jacob, but I hated Esau."[a]

14 So what should we say about this? Is God unfair? In no way.15 God said to Moses, "I will show kindness to anyone to whom I want to show kindness, and I will show mercy to anyone to whom I want to show mercy."[b]16 So God will choose the one to whom he decides to show mercy; his choice does not depend on what people want or try to do.17 The Scripture says to the king of Egypt: "I made you king for this reason: to show my power in you so that my name will be talked about in all the earth."[c]18 So God shows mercy where he wants to show mercy, and he makes stubborn the people he wants to make stubborn.

19 So one of you will ask me: "Then why does God blame us for our sins? Who can fight his will?"20 You are only human, and human beings have no right to question God. An object should not ask the person who made it, "Why did you make me like this?"21 The potter can make anything he wants to make. He can use the same clay to make one thing for special use and another thing for daily use.

22 It is the same way with God. He wanted to show his anger and to let people see his power. But he patiently stayed with those people he was angry with
